New Book on Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Now Available!

Miami, Florida, U.S.A., 14 September 2018 —A new book entitled “Memory Loss and Aging” is coming out at just the right time. The publication coincides with World Alzheimer's Month that was launched in 2012 by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. World Alzheimer’s Day is held on September 21 each year.

“The stigmatization and misinformation that surrounds dementia remains a global problem that requires global action,” as mentioned in the Alzheimer’s Disease International website.

“Age-related memory loss is not the same as dementia, and dementia is not synonymous with Alzheimer’s disease,” explains Dr. Joy Bruce, who is the author of “Memory Loss and Aging”. Dr. Bruce, a graduate of University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, is a neuropathologist and retired professor in Pathology at the University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine. She was Principal Investigator for an NIH-NCI Program Project Grant and State of Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Project.

The book provides critical information about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It discusses the different types of dementia, and explains how they can be distinguished from each other. Examples of famous persons with dementia are also incorporated in the book.


Contributing to the book is Marc-Eli Medina Faldas who wrote the chapter, “The Stress of Caregiving”. Marc, whose father and mother come from Surallah, South Cotabato and Quezon City, respectively, is currently a first year medical student at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
